From San Francisco, look North across the Golden Gate Bridge and you can't miss Mt. Tamalpais - it's the tallest mountain in the area with a visible fire lookout on the East peak. That fire lookout, and its view of the entire Bay Area, is the final destination of this hike.
But the best part of our journey may be the trip there, as we visit virtually every type of landscape to be found on the Mountain.
Starting lower down at Pan Toll, we hike upward with views of the ocean, making our way to the famous Mountain Theater. Then back into the woods for a while before arriving at the lovely, secluded Potrero Meadow for a picnic lunch.
Continuing on, we walk over serpentine rock, make a quick visit to a mountain spring, then our final climb to the top, elevation 2,571 feet. Once photos have been taken and the view's been enjoyed, our ride home awaits. |
